Kuala Lampur:Selangor: The Selangor state government has announced the extension of its RM30 Monthly Selangor Public Transport Subsidy to now include KTM Komuter services, effective immediately.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, this subsidy expansion was confirmed by State Investment, Trade and Mobility Committee chairman Ng Sze Han. Initially, the subsidy applied only to Rapid KL On-Demand and Kumpool services. The extension aims to benefit a larger number of commuters by including KTM Komuter, thereby encouraging broader use of public transport.
Previously, over 90 percent of subsidy recipients chose Rapid KL On-Demand services, with the largest user group being individuals aged 26 to 35, comprising 35 percent of users. The inclusion of KTM Komuter is part of the Selangor Resilience Package, which seeks to alleviate living costs for workers and students dependent on public transport.
Managed by Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd (RMSB), a subsidiary of Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI Selangor), the programme collaborates with transport providers and a digital payment platform. It is set to run until December 2026, offering 50,000 subsidy quotas to registered voters in Selangor.
Eligibility for the subsidy is based on voter registration rather than residential or work addresses. It covers KTM Komuter services in the Klang Valley, northern sectors, and the Southern Shuttle Service. Applicants can apply via the Nine application, selecting KTM Komuter as their service of choice.
Once approved, the RM30 monthly subsidy is credited to the user's Nine e-wallet, allowing them to purchase tickets or passes through the KTMB Mobile or KITS Style applications, with Nine as the payment method. The state government encourages eligible voters in Selangor to apply promptly to take advantage of this subsidy to reduce their travel costs.
