Kuala Lampur:Selangor: A special public holiday on October 25, marking the Silver Jubilee of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's 25-year reign, must be observed by private-sector employers in Selangor who have chosen it as one of their paid public holidays.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Department of Labour Peninsular Malaysia (JTKSM) stated that employers who recognize Sunday as a rest day must provide a replacement paid public holiday on October 26, in compliance with Section 60D(1) of the Employment Act 1955.
Employers, with employee agreement, may alternatively replace the paid public holiday with another day, as permitted by the Act.
The special public holiday was declared under subsection 9(1) of the Holidays Act 1951, enabling the state government to establish any day as a public holiday within the state.
On September 11, the Selangor state government announced October 26 as a replacement public holiday for the entire state, following the declaration of October 25 as a special public holiday for the Silver Jubilee celebration, as the original date falls on a Sunday.
