Kuala lumpur: The Segambut Utara KTM Komuter station, launched today, is the latest addition to the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) network, developed through a public-private collaboration at a cost of RM39 million fully borne by the developer. Transport Minister Anthony Loke highlighted that the station's construction was mandated by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for a nearby project, with no government funding involved.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Loke described the station as a model for future developments, encouraging project integration with the public transport network provided developers cover station construction costs. He emphasized the benefits of this approach, previously implemented at Abdullah Hukum and Kajang 2 stations, which enhanced local access to KTM services.
Loke underscored the national importance of such collaborations in delivering high-quality infrastructure efficiently while upholding governance and safety standards. He noted the private sector's capability to support national infrastructure goals when guided by transparent and integrity-based frameworks.
Located between Kepong and Segambut stations, the Segambut Utara station was developed through a collaboration between Railway Assets Corporation (RAC), UOA Development Berhad's subsidiary, IDP Industrial Development Sdn Bhd, and rail operator KTMB. The station's opening aligns with the government's commitment to sustainable public transport and reducing reliance on private vehicles, in line with Malaysia MADANI's aspirations.
Loke projected that nearly 90,000 residents in Segambut, Kepong, Jinjang, and Mont Kiara would benefit directly, with expectations to exceed 100,000 in the future. The station can accommodate up to 8,000 passengers per hour per direction during peak times, handling nearly 580,000 passengers annually, contributing significantly to reducing private vehicle usage.
To promote public transport, RAC offers free parking for three months following the station's opening. Additionally, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh announced DBKL's agreement to extend the GoKL Bus Route 13, connecting Segambut Utara station with Jinjang MRT station.
