Ulu Tiram: The security situation of the Malaysian Battalion (MALBATT) 850-12, part of the United Nations peacekeeping and humanitarian mission in Lebanon, remains under control and stable. Despite facing potential security risks, the team has implemented various contingency measures to maintain vigilance.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Army Chief General Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan emphasized the importance of constant alertness among the team members. He noted that while the security situation is stable, complacency is not an option. During a reception at Ulu Tiram Camp for family members of MALBATT 850-12, he highlighted the proactive measures taken, such as the construction of bunkers, to enhance security.
General Muhammad Hafizuddeain also acknowledged the potential threat from uncontrolled actions by warring parties in the region. However, he reassured that no high-risk incidents have occurred in the area assigned to MALBATT 850-12. The team, which left for Lebanon last November, is expected to return home in stages by next November and will be succeeded by MALBATT 850-13.
The upcoming MALBATT 850-13 team will include approximately 850 members, featuring a platoon from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. The selection of commanders and staff officers for this team is currently underway. The Second Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment, based in Sungai Ara, has been chosen for this mission. Training and integration preparations are scheduled to take place in Port Dickson by June.
During the ceremony, welfare contributions were presented by General Muhammad Hafizuddeain and Puan Sri Hartiah Hamzah, chairman of the Army Family Welfare Board (BAKAT), to family members of the MALBATT 850-12 team, particularly those experiencing health issues. Additionally, a live video call session was organized with the team members stationed in Lebanon.
