SEA Games 2025: Cheong Min Secures Double Gold for Malaysia in Wushu

Chaeng watthana: The national wushu squad concluded the 2025 SEA Games with commendable success, securing two gold medals on the final day of the event at the Chaeng Watthana Government Complex.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, national wushu queen Tan Cheong Min achieved both golds in the combined event of nanquan, nandao, and nangun, as well as in the women's duilian (armed) team event. In the individual category, the Melaka-born athlete amassed a total of 29,263 points, with scores of 9,743 in nanquan and 9,760 each in nandao and nangun. This performance placed her ahead of Vietnamese competitor Dang Tran Phuong Nhi, who won silver with 28,112 points, and Singapore's Kassandra Ong Xue Ling, who took bronze with 28,579 points.

Cheong Min later joined forces with Loh Ying Ting and Pang Pui Yee to secure Malaysia's second gold in the women's team duilian event, achieving a total score of 9,730 points. She attributed their success to the rigorous preparations, including a three-month training camp in China that began in March.

Expressing her happiness, Cheong Min remarked, "I am very happy with my own and the team's achievements. My preparations started early not only for the SEA Games, but also several other major tournaments throughout the year." She is optimistic that this victory will boost the national wushu squad's performance in the upcoming 2027 SEA Games, set to be hosted by Malaysia.

Earlier, the trio of Lo Ying Ting, Mandy Cebelle Chen, and Sydney Chin Sy Xuan had already laid a strong foundation for the wushu camp by winning gold in the Duilian event (without weapons) last Saturday. Overall, the wushu camp concluded the campaign with a total haul of three gold, one silver, and four bronze medals.
