Schools in Several Malaysian States to Operate Normally Despite Haze Concerns

Accra:All educational institutions under the Ministry of Education in Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Selangor, and Putrajaya are set to operate as usual tomorrow.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the State Education Departments in these regions have made provisions for concerned parents and guardians to keep their children at home if they are worried about the health effects of the haze, as long as the school is notified of the absence. Pupils, teachers, and school staff are encouraged to wear face masks due to the haze conditions.

In Negeri Sembilan, outdoor activities such as physical education and sports will be halted if the Air Pollutant Index (API) exceeds 100. The decision to close schools remains contingent on ministry guidelines based on API readings. Similarly, in Pahang, Selangor, and Putrajaya, all outdoor activities have been suspended.

Parents are advised to stay informed through official communication channels, including the state education departments, district offices, and schools. The Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System reported 34 areas with unhealthy API levels, with Johan Setia in Selangor having the highest at 192.

In Penang, schools will also remain open, but outdoor activities are postponed. API readings were below 150, and students are advised to wear masks as a precaution. Parents may keep children home if concerned, following proper notification procedures.
