Schools in Lubok Antu to Close Due to Worsening Haze Conditions

Lubok antu: All educational institutions under the Lubok Antu District Education Office (PPD) will close tomorrow due to haze affecting the district's air quality. The Sarawak State Education Department (JPN) said in a statement today that the closure involves 28 primary schools (2,242 pupils) and two secondary schools (1,793 students). "Any changes or updates will be announced from time to time," said the department.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sarawak JPN also advised all educational institutions in the state to stay vigilant about current developments and monitor Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in their areas or districts. "Educational institutions must also comply with recommendations from the Ministry of Health from time to time to safeguard the health of students and staff," it said.

The Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) reported that the town of Sri Aman recorded an unhealthy API reading of 162 as of 9 pm today. An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy; and above 300, hazardous.
