Schools in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu to Remain Open Amid Haze Concerns

Accra:Kedah Schools in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu will operate as usual tomorrow as the Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in these states remain under control.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek stated that the Education Ministry (MOE) will continue to monitor air quality due to the ongoing haze affecting the country. She confirmed that, as the API readings are manageable, schools in these states will not close tomorrow.

The MOE has previously instructed all educational institutions in areas with API readings exceeding 180 to close starting October 9, and those in areas with readings above 150 for three consecutive days to close from October 12. This measure is to ensure the health and safety of students and educators.

The MOE has also directed State Education Directors to establish a Haze Monitoring Task Force Committee. This committee, comprising State Education Departments and District Education Offices, will monitor API readings at scheduled times daily to determine school operations.

Decisions on school operations will be based on committee data, determining whether schools will remain open or switch to Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPr). Announcements regarding school status will be made before 2.45 pm on Saturdays for Group A schools and Sundays for Group B schools, and before 5.45 pm on other days based on data from the Department of Environment.

The MOE emphasized that this schedule aims to assist hostel students with travel arrangements and advised parents and guardians to stay informed through official announcements from respective education offices and schools.
