Sarawak’s Call for More Professional Dietitians to Ensure Nutritional Balance

Sarawak: Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has highlighted the urgent need for more professional dietitians in the region to ensure the community receives balanced meals in their daily nutrition.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abang Johari emphasized the importance of having professional dietitians to help people understand the nutritional content of their food and to assist in planning meals that meet dietary requirements. During the 3rd Annual Meeting of the UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy Network (UCCN), he expressed concern that many individuals are unaware of the dietary aspects of their meals.

Abang Johari suggested practical approaches such as reducing portion sizes without compromising taste and minimizing food waste. He noted that excessive food serving often leads to wastage, as many people do not consume their entire meals. He also stressed the importance of managing food intake to maintain a healthy Body Mass Index (BMI), advocating for a more informed and balanced approach to nutrition in Sarawak.
