Kuala Lampur:The Sarawak State Legislative Assembly is anticipated to be dissolved in November, possibly two weeks after the passing of the state's Budget 2027.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, mentioned that the budget would be introduced at the upcoming assembly sitting. He emphasized that the Sarawak government would not permit the automatic expiration of the State Legislative Assembly's term in February 2027, coinciding with the end of the state government's mandate.
Abdul Karim explained that it is uncommon for the Premier, or equivalent state leaders, to let the assembly dissolve automatically. They typically seek its dissolution proactively. With only a few months remaining until the term concludes, he indicated that elections need to be held soon, suggesting the dissolution date could be anytime in November, either following the Sarawak Budget or two weeks thereafter.
Media reports have noted that the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly is scheduled to convene from October 12 to 21.
