Kuching:The state of Sarawak is set to develop the Kuching AI Data Campus in Tanjung Embang, Samarahan. This initiative aims to drive the next phase of Sarawak's artificial intelligence ecosystem, as announced by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the campus will feature dedicated power and water infrastructure, AI computing facilities, and digital connectivity nodes. It is planned to be developed through a public-private partnership model.
The campus is designed to lay the groundwork for an AI Grid, which will attract investment, bolster the data center ecosystem, and support the expansion of AI-related businesses and capabilities in Sarawak. These remarks were made by Abang Johari during the ninth International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS26), themed 'Scaling Innovation Ecosystems For A Borderless Economy: Earth, Orbit and Beyond'.
In tandem with the data campus, an AI Grid is also being developed. This initiative aims to link computing resources and capitalize on Sarawak's renewable energy capacity, marking a shift from strategic planning to infrastructure development and eventual application.
Abang Johari highlighted ADAM AI as a practical example of this approach. Developed for the Sarawak Civil Service, ADAM AI demonstrates the application of AI in government to enhance information management, support policy analysis, and improve document preparation, scenario assessment, and decision-making processes. These capabilities could also be adapted for various industries where Sarawak has specific needs and advantages.
