Sarawak Launches Supply Chain Programme to Boost Global Market Links

Kuala Lumpur:Sarawak The Sarawak Government has initiated the Sarawak Global Supply Chain and Sourcing Programme 2026, aiming to strengthen industrial connections and enhance the state's role in both regional and global supply chains.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the programme is spearheaded by the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED) and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA). Strategic partners include the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), InvestSarawak, the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA), and the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC).

This two-day programme offers various activities such as networking sessions, knowledge-sharing forums, business-matching engagements, and business clinics to promote collaboration between local enterprises and international industry players. With over 300 participants, the programme aims to convert business connections into significant commercial results, including supplier development, investment prospects, technology transfer, and job creation.

MIDA's chief executive officer, Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, emphasized the programme's role in bringing together anchor companies and Sarawak-based businesses to better understand procurement needs, identify capability gaps, and foster stronger business relationships. The goal is for more Sarawak companies to become suppliers and partners to investors, thereby positioning themselves for participation in larger supply chains.

Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan highlighted the state's new phase of industrial development. The focus now is on ensuring investments generate meaningful economic value through stronger local engagement, technology transfer, skills development, and integration into global supply chains. He encouraged Sarawakian enterprises to enhance their competitiveness by embracing digital transformation, investing in technology, adopting international standards, and strengthening workforce capabilities to meet global market demands.

'This reflects the spirit of #InvestLokal - ensuring that investments translate into stronger local capabilities, deeper industry linkages and greater opportunities for Malaysian businesses,' he said.
