Terengganu: The Terengganu office of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has brought its Safe Internet Campaign to 510 schools and educational institutions across the state.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MCMC Eastern Region senior director Mohd Fairus Muhamad stated that the programme aims to educate students on the importance of using the internet safely and responsibly. It seeks to raise awareness of online scams, cyberbullying, the spread of false information, and the need to safeguard personal data and information.
The initiative has also been extended to communities through carnivals featuring exhibitions, talks, and knowledge-sharing sessions involving local residents and relevant agencies. Mohd Fairus emphasized that online safety is a collective responsibility that should be nurtured from within families and reinforced throughout the community. He highlighted the goal of fostering digital literacy alongside ethical and resilient behavior in cyberspace challenges.
The 2026 Hulu Terengganu District Safe Internet Campaign Community Carnival at FELDA Mengkawang marked the campaign's opening, attended by Terengganu Region FELDA manager Shahruddin Ab Rahman and Terengganu MCMC director Abd Mubin Mohd Zain. Approximately 500 visitors from around Hulu Terengganu participated in activities such as traditional sports, an interactive quiz, a healthy cooking competition, a safe internet briefing, and free health screenings conducted by Sultan Zainal Abidin Hospital.
Mohd Fairus announced plans to hold 20 carnivals in Terengganu, Pahang, and Kelantan this year. The campaign will cover eight locations in Pahang, seven in Kelantan, and five in Terengganu. The first event in Terengganu took place at FELDA Mengkawang, with upcoming events scheduled at FELDA Neram, Kemaman on September 5, and Pulau Perhentian on September 26, while the dates for Marang and Kuala Terengganu are yet to be determined.
