Kota kinabalu: Federal Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin failed to capture the Tanjung Aru seat in the 17th Sabah State Election today. Chan, who is also Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament, said that he accepts and respects the election results.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chan expressed his gratitude to the people of Sabah and acknowledged their decision. He emphasized the importance of reflecting on the results and expressed his commitment to improving himself and working harder for the progress of Kota Kinabalu. In a post on his official Facebook page, Chan stated, “The people of Sabah have made their choice, and I take this as a meaningful reminder to continue reflecting, improving myself and working harder for the progress of Kota Kinabalu. I will take this result as guidance to continue bettering myself, and to redouble my efforts and work in Kota Kinabalu.”
Chan was part of a nine-cornered contest that included candidates from various parties and independents. Among his competitors were Datuk Loh Ee Eng (PBK), Hiew Choon Yu (STAR), Datuk Wong Hong Jun (Warisan), Yee Wee Ping (PIS), Dennison R. Indang (UPKO), Mohamed Zaim Ansawi (Independent), Ritchie Jay Cheng (Independent), and Suhaimi Buang (PN-Bersatu).
Meanwhile, Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, who also failed to secure the Likas seat, announced that the party will conduct a comprehensive post-mortem following losses in all eight seats it contested. Phoong noted that the defeat reflects the people’s disappointment and serves as an essential reminder for the party to make improvements. He expressed his gratitude to the voters and congratulated the successful candidates.
Earlier, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke released a statement confirming the party’s defeat in all eight contested seats, which included Luyang, Kapayan, Likas, Tanjong Papat, Elopura, Sri Tanjong, Tanjung Aru, and Kemabong.
