Sabah: The number of flood victims seeking shelter at temporary relief centres in Sabah has decreased to 2,432 as of 4 pm today, down from 5,093 at noon.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Sabah State Disaster Management Secretariat reported that the reduction in evacuees followed the closure of all relief centres in Paitan, which had previously accommodated 2,071 individuals. All those housed in Paitan have now been allowed to return to their homes.
In Pitas, the number of evacuees dropped to 2,187 from 2,777 at noon as floodwaters continued to recede. Meanwhile, the number of evacuees in Tawau remained unchanged at 245. Despite the improvements, a total of 47 villages across the affected districts are still impacted by the floods.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for thunderstorms in several interior areas of Sabah this evening and tonight. The public is advised to remain cautious and plan their journeys accordingly.
