Sabah Elections: PKR Embraces People’s Verdict with Resolve

Kota kinabalu: PKR has accepted with open heart the people’s decision in the 17th Sabah state election, describing it as an important signal and a reminder that should be heeded in continuing the party’s political struggle. In a joint statement, PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar and Pakatan Harapan (PH) secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the election result this time also reflected the people’s sentiments on the issue of governance, transparency, and leadership at the local level.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nurul Izzah and Saifuddin Nasution expressed that the outcome of the state polls conveyed a clear message that internal disagreements weaken political strength and erode public confidence in the party’s ability to provide stable and responsible leadership. Nurul Izzah, as deputy president, emphasized the importance of acknowledging weaknesses and striving for improvement as part of the party’s ongoing journey.

PKR was given the opportunity to contest 12 seats in this election, which Nurul Izzah and Saifuddin Nasution viewed as a positive sign that confidence in the party is beginning to grow in Sabah. They noted that while the results may not represent a numerical victory, the determination and support from party members and machinery indicate a victory in spirit.

The party also expressed gratitude to all its machinery and grassroots supporters who dedicated their time, resources, and energy throughout the campaign. PKR congratulated all candidates who successfully secured the people’s mandate, including the single seat won by the party, urging them to serve with honesty and determination.

In the election for 73 seats in the State Legislative Assembly, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) secured 29 seats, Parti Warisan gained 25, Barisan Nasional won 6, Independent candidates took 5, Pertubuhan Kinabalu Progresif Bersatu (UPKO) secured 3, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) won 2, while Perikatan Nasional (PN), Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM), and Pakatan Harapan (PH) each won one seat.
