SHAH ALAM: Sabah DAP has been granted the autonomy to engage in discussions with Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in preparation for the upcoming state election, as announced by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Loke emphasized the decision was made due to Sabah DAP’s in-depth understanding of the state’s political landscape. During a recent visit to Labuan, Loke met with Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, who provided insights into the political dynamics of the region. Loke expressed confidence in the new leadership’s capability to navigate these dynamics effectively.
The announcement comes amid plans by GRS chairman and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who stated that discussions among GRS component parties and other political entities, including Pakatan Harapan (PH), are anticipated to take place within the month.
Loke, who also serves as Malaysia’s Transport Minister, highlighted the achievements of the Unity Government under Prime Minister Datuk Se
ri Anwar Ibrahim over the past two years. He noted that the government has achieved political stability, which has contributed to driving the nation’s economy forward. He further mentioned the smooth functioning of the Cabinet through cooperation with Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), and GRS.
He expressed optimism about the future, stating that if current efforts to strengthen the economy and governance continue successfully over the next three years, the cooperation could be sustained.
In another development, Loke expressed his hopes for a smooth election process for the new term of the Selangor DAP Committee, emphasizing the importance of leadership that reflects the state’s racial diversity. The 2024 Selangor DAP Ordinary Convention saw the participation of 1,653 delegates.
