Sabah By-elections: Early Voting Preparations Proceed Smoothly

Kuala lumpur: Preparations for early voting in the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state by-elections tomorrow, involving 196 police personnel and their spouses, are proceeding smoothly.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Election Officer Dr Eddy Syaizul Rizam Abdullah stated that the preparations, which began at 8 am at the Kinabatangan district police headquarters (IPD), the sole early voting centre, also involved 14 Election Commission (EC) staff. Dr Eddy expressed optimism, saying, "Preparations for tomorrow's early voting are proceeding smoothly and we are targeting 100 percent turnout." He noted that early voting will run from 8 am to 5 pm using a single polling channel.

The Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election features a three-cornered contest among Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar, Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman of Warisan, and independent candidate Goldam Hamid. Meanwhile, the Lamag state by-election is a straight fight between Mohd Ismail Ayob (BN) and Mazliwati Abdul Malek (Warisan). Both by-elections were called following the death of incumbent Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, 66, on December 5 last year.
