RM5 to RM6 Billion Required for Federal Road Maintenance, Says Ahmad Maslan

Kuala Lampur:Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan announced the Works Ministry's request for a sufficient allocation under Budget 2027 to address the maintenance needs of federal roads across the nation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Ahmad Maslan stated that an allocation of between RM5 billion and RM6 billion is necessary to maintain road quality and safety at optimal levels. This year, the ministry received only RM3.18 billion, distributed as RM2.08 billion for Peninsular Malaysia, RM640 million for Sabah, and RM461 million for Sarawak.

Dr Ahmad Maslan made these remarks in response to a supplementary question from Manndzri Nasib (BN-Tenggara) during a question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat. The question addressed data on the ballot draw for road maintenance project procurements and the adequacy of the current allocation.

Regarding the allocation for road maintenance project procurements, Dr Ahmad Maslan mentioned that RM700 million had been earmarked specifically to benefit small contractors in the G1 to G4 classes via a ballot draw. This method ensures transparency in the procurement process at the ministry level. For 2026, the allocation for these contractors includes RM300 million for Peninsular Malaysia, with Sarawak and Sabah each receiving RM200 million.
