Kuala Lampur:Awareness of the Anti-Bullying Tribunal (TAB) as a dedicated channel for addressing bullying cases involving children and teenagers needs to be increased, according to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Azalina emphasized the importance of ensuring that bullying victims know about this alternative avenue for lodging complaints, especially if schools fail to take adequate action or respond appropriately to reports. She noted that the tribunal could handle both physical and emotional bullying cases, offering victims a direct route to seek intervention.
Azalina pointed out that the focus should not only be on punishment but also on intervention and rehabilitation to effectively address bullying. She mentioned that while the existing system involves due process for punishment, the Tribunal offers a streamlined process that emphasizes rehabilitation over punitive measures.
The Anti-Bullying Tribunal was established under the Anti-Bullying Act 2026, which came into force on June 16. Since its launch, the Tribunal has received over 60 reports of bullying cases. Azalina urged victims to report any uncomfortable situations or harassment to the Tribunal, regardless of whether the perpetrators are peers, teachers, or others.
