KOTA BHARU: The cost of repairing federal and state roads damaged by floods in Kelantan is estimated at RM22.5 million, announced Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan. The extensive damage includes several landslides, road collapses, and sinkholes across the region.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Maslan outlined that 12 flood-affected locations along federal roads have suffered significant damage, including eight landslides, two road shoulder collapses, and two road sinkholes, with repair costs projected at RM16 million. For state roads, there are four affected locations with two road collapses, one damaged road shoulder, and one road sinkhole, amounting to estimated repair costs of RM6.5 million.

Ahmad stated that funding would be sought through additional allocations from the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), given that the damage resulted from a natural disaster. He noted that the repair process typically takes about three months to complete. He further mentioned the importan
ce of timing in the repair efforts, considering the multiple waves of floods occurring in the region. “We must wait and see over the next few weeks because if repairs are carried out too early, subsequent flooding could undo the work,” he emphasized.

Despite the ongoing Northeast Monsoon, Ahmad assured that the progress of major projects in the state, such as the Central Spine Road (CSR) and Jalan Kota Bharu-Kuala Krai Road, remains unaffected. He explained that timelines for related projects, including schools, bridges, police stations, and health centres, account for the monsoon season. He cited the example of the stadium for the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Bukit Merbau Pasir Putih, expected to be completed in 2026, and the newly operational Bachok hospital.
