JOHOR BAHRU: The state government has prepared alternative plans to ensure that 43,175 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates can continue to sit for the examination, said State Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin. He said 16 SPM candidates from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Buloh Kasap in Segamat are already affected.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, nine of the affected students are currently placed at SMK Buloh Kasap, while the others are temporarily staying at their relatives’ homes. The state is committed to ensuring that the candidates do not have to postpone their exams and that the examination proceeds as scheduled. Aznan assured that arrangements could be made for their turn to take the SPM oral test, and there are no existing issues with the SPM process, which is running smoothly. This was confirmed during his visit to SMK Tasek Utara, where he was accompanied by the school principal, Mislina Salleh.

Meanwhile, Aznan mentioned that the Johor Education Department has id
entified 669 schools to be designated as temporary relief centres. The primary schools are prioritized to allow secondary school SPM candidates to focus on their exams. Should it become necessary to open relief centres at secondary schools, arrangements will be made to relocate the candidates to other schools as needed.

As of noon, 840 flood victims have been accommodated at 17 relief centres in Segamat. In a separate development, Aznan urged parents to monitor their children under 18 to prevent them from watching movies that depict bullying behaviours. He stressed that while the state’s film industry is not opposed, it is discouraged when it involves themes of bullying. He expressed hope that the ministry, cinema operators, and parents will take responsibility for monitoring such content, noting that no reports of bullying incidents have been received from schools across the state thus far.
