Kuala Lumpur:A RM1.1 billion allocation has been announced under Budget 2027 to enhance the operational readiness of enforcement agencies, including the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD), to combat smuggling, curb revenue leakages, and protect Malaysia's economic interests.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Customs director-general Datuk Seri Amran Ahmad expressed gratitude for the continued support from the MADANI Government, which also extends to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the Royal Malaysia Police. This allocation aims to strengthen these agencies' operational capabilities.
Amran highlighted RMCD's commitment to the policies and initiatives outlined in Budget 2027, particularly in safeguarding economic stability and addressing national revenue leakages. He noted that RMCD is intensifying its enforcement efforts against businesses operated by foreign nationals that violate laws and evade taxes, in collaboration with the Inland Revenue Board and the Finance Ministry's Special Task Force.
In operations conducted between July and August in the Klang Valley, Selangor, and Johor, RMCD seized a significant quantity of goods, including 429,526 cigarettes and 7,773.93 liters of alcoholic beverages, valued at RM715,695.26, and detained 23 individuals for further investigation.
RMCD also welcomed the duty and tax exemptions announced in Budget 2027, aimed at stimulating economic activity and reducing business costs for the public, industry players, and traders.
Datuk Seri Amran Ahmad expressed appreciation for the announcement of a RM1,500 Special Financial Assistance payment for 1.3 million civil servants, viewing it as an encouragement for continued excellence in service delivery. He emphasized RMCD's commitment to supporting the implementation of Budget 2027 through efficient revenue collection, stronger enforcement, technology use, and improved service delivery, all underpinned by integrity and professionalism.
