RKAT Kem Lok Kawi Project To Be Completed By August

Lok Kawi: The ‘Projek Rumah Keluarga Angkatan Tentera (RKAT) Kem Lok Kawi’, which provides 513 housing units of various classes for members of the Armed Forces, is expected to be completed by August this year, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said. He stated that the construction of the RM188 million project, which began on February 22, 2022, is proceeding smoothly without any disruptions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamed Khaled expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project after receiving a briefing and inspecting the site. He highlighted that the project is expected to benefit 513 families of defence personnel serving around the Kem Lok Kawi area once fully completed. In line with the Fourth Focus of the Ministry of Defence for 2025, the ministry has allocated RM2.9 million for the maintenance of RKAT and the Kem Lok Kawi Accommodation Block for this year. An additional RM11.3 million has been allocated for the RKAT and maintenance of the 5th Division Accommodation Block for this year.

The minister elaborated that overall, there are four accommodation blocks in Kem Lok Kawi. Moreover, 161 RKAT units across Kem Lok Kawi, Kem Brooke, Kem Paradise, Kem Penampang, and Kem Sri Kinabatangan will undergo maintenance this year. He emphasized the ministry’s ongoing commitment to focusing on the welfare of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) personnel, acknowledging them as the key driving force to ensure the well-being and high morale of the army, which in turn ensures a quality life for them.

During his visit, Mohamed Khaled also presented a one-time RM500 welfare contribution to 20 chronic patients serving in the 5th Division. This contribution is part of the ministry’s efforts to alleviate the burden on military personnel in need, especially in managing their daily lives.
