Dungun: A private higher education and training institution, Ranaco Education and Training Institute (RETI), has introduced an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based information technology course to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) beginning this year. RETI chief executive officer Syafiq Asyraf Mohd Yusup announced this development, highlighting the institute's role as one of the first in the East Coast to integrate AI applications in the maritime and oil and gas sectors.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the AI course aims to attract more young people to engage in machine-driven simulations of human intelligence. Syafiq Asyraf emphasized the course's significance in bolstering the education, technology, and development ecosystem, aligning with current digital transformation goals and industry needs. This announcement followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) involving six industry players and the Ranaco Group at RETI.
The six companies participating in the MoU are Emerald Insulation Services Sdn Bhd, Js Major Solution Sdn Bhd, Suria Resort Management Sdn Bhd, TSMN (M) Sdn Bhd, Vesmatic Integrated Solution Sdn Bhd, and CKJ Engineering and Services Sdn Bhd. Syafiq Asyraf further revealed that the course will be conducted in collaboration with Awantech Systems, a key partner of Google in the information technology sector, with the first student intake expected in September.
Over the past five years, RETI has collaborated with 44 industry companies nationwide in the oil and gas, maritime, and hospitality sectors, creating employment opportunities for its students. "This collaboration includes enhancing the quality of education and skills as well as improving student employability in a more effective and targeted manner," Syafiq Asyraf stated. He noted that nearly 99 percent of graduates secure job opportunities immediately after completing their studies, with some receiving offers during their industrial training.
RETI provides six TVET certificate programs, including Deck Rating, Engine Rating, Catering Rating, Pipe Gas Insulation, Pipe and Rigger Fitter, and Basic Culinary. At the diploma level, the institution offers nine programs, such as Diploma in Maritime Management, Diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain, Diploma in Nautical Studies, and Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health.
