Rapid Rail Adjusts Peak-hour Schedules During Ramadan, Announces Transport Minister

Kuala lumpur: Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd (Rapid Rail) has extended peak-hour rail service periods throughout the month of Ramadan to accommodate changes in passenger travel patterns, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said. He stated that the morning peak hours will now start from 6.30 am to 9.30 am, instead of the usual 7 am to 9.30 am, while evening peak hours have been extended from 4 pm to 8 pm, compared to the previous 5 pm to 7.30 pm schedule.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Loke emphasized the importance of these adjustments in ensuring smooth service operations, enhancing passenger comfort, and maintaining operational efficiency, especially for earlier return trips before breaking fast. These remarks were made in response to a question from Syahredzan Johan (PH-Bangi) during a question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat. Syahredzan had inquired if Rapid Rail, operated by Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, would alter its peak service hours following the observed changes in passenger movement patterns during Ramadan.

Addressing concerns about service disruptions, Loke assured that preparedness is a constant practice and not limited to Ramadan. He highlighted the ongoing implementation of predictive and preventive maintenance to minimize disruptions. Furthermore, technical staff are being deployed on trains, and station management training is conducted to manage passenger flow and reduce congestion.

Loke also addressed a supplementary question from Dr Abd Ghani Ahmad (PN-Jerlun) regarding the effectiveness of maintenance and adherence to key performance indicators (KPIs). He noted a significant decline in rail service disruption incidents since 2022, attributing this to Prasarana's mitigation measures aimed at better maintenance. The KPI set by the ministry considers any train non-operation exceeding five minutes as a disruption, emphasizing the goal of rapid restoration in such cases.

In conclusion, Loke assured that the Ministry of Transport and Prasarana are committed to enhancing communication and passenger management to ensure efficient rail services and bolster public confidence.
