Ramli and Wife Attend Ceremony Celebrating His Appointment as Penang Governor

Penang: Tun Ramli Ngah Talib and his wife, Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah, attended the ‘Majlis Kesyukuran dan Doa Selamat’ in celebration of his appointment as the ninth Yang Dipertua Negeri of Penang. The event was held at the Penang State Mosque and marked a significant moment in his career.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the couple was warmly received by Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid and his wife upon their arrival. The ceremony commenced with the congregational Maghrib prayer, followed by the recitation of Yasin and doa selamat, which were led by Penang Mufti Associate Professor Dr Mohd Sukki Othman.

The event saw the presence of key members of the state government leadership, including Datuk Rashidi Zinol, Trade, Entrepreneurial and Rural Development Committee chairman, and Zairil Khir Johari, Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Committee chairman. Approximately 500 people attended the ceremony, highlighting the importance of the occasion.

Tun Ramli was officially sworn in as the ninth Yang Dipertua Negeri of Penang on May 1 in a ceremonial event at Dewan Sri Pinang, succeeding Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak. His appointment became effective on May 1, 2025, following his receipt of the letter of appointment from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, on April 24 at Istana Negara.

Throughout his career, Ramli has held several significant roles at both federal and state levels. He served as the eighth Menteri Besar of Perak for 17 years, from 1982 to 1999, followed by his tenure as Deputy Minister of Transport from 2000 to 2004, and as Dewan Rakyat speaker from 2004 to 2008.
