Kuala perlis: Traders in Perlis are being urged by the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, to sell food at reasonable prices to attract tourists and support the state's economic growth.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Raja emphasized the importance of providing excellent service and maintaining the quality of food to ensure businesses thrive.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin highlighted the need for traders to balance their profit margins with fair pricing, cautioning against unreasonable price hikes. His remarks were made during the Kuala Perlis International Water Festival 2026 at Kampung Wai Square, where he stressed the significance of fostering a welcoming environment for tourists.

The Raja also highlighted the historical and cultural importance of the water festival, which celebrates the tradition of boat racing and the fishing community's way of life. He encouraged the elevation of the festival to an international event that honors local traditions and identity.

Furthermore, the Raja expressed hopes that the festival would serve as a platform to showcase the culinary, craft, and cultural arts of Perlis to both domestic and international visitors. He emphasized the need to highlight the state's natural beauty, history, and culture as unique tourism strengths.

Additionally, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin called for tourism development in Kuala Perlis to deliver direct economic benefits, such as business opportunities and increased income, for the local community. He also underscored the importance of maintaining cleanliness, safety, and environmental sustainability in shared natural resources.

The water festival is organized in two phases, with the first phase occurring from yesterday until tomorrow, and the second phase scheduled from September 18 to September 20.
