Raja Of Perlis Launches Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Free Trade Zone-PIP

Perlis: The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, today graced and officiated the launch of the Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Free Trade Zone-Perlis Inland Port (PIP) here.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin emphasized that the development of PIP as a free trade zone is a strategic step towards enhancing Perlis' and Malaysia's role as a regional trade and logistics gateway, focusing on intra-Asia land transportation, particularly the Pan-Asia railway network. He expressed confidence that the free trade zone will stimulate economic growth, create investment opportunities, and boost cross-border trade, while contributing to Malaysia's GDP.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin highlighted Perlis' strategic location bordering Thailand and its position along a key ASEAN trade route. He urged the Federal Government to continue strategic investments to accelerate the state's economic growth. The launch ceremony was also attended by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah, and Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

The Raja of Perlis consented to the use of his name for the zone, expressing hope that it would grow into a modern logistics hub, attracting high-quality investments and strengthening Malaysia's economic ties with neighboring countries. He noted that the development would benefit large-scale trade and industrial sectors and generate spillover benefits such as job creation and growth of small and medium enterprises.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin mentioned that Perlis has the potential to become a major ASEAN trade gateway, situated at the intersection of the Intra-Asia Land Rail Corridor and the Malacca Strait Maritime Corridor. He called for the support of various stakeholders to realize this vision.

His Royal Highness also emphasized the importance of integrity and professionalism in management practices to establish Perlis as a preferred trading hub. He expressed his appreciation to Mutiara Perlis Sdn Bhd, the Perlis state government, the Economy Ministry, the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority, the Transport Ministry, and all parties involved in the development of PIP, acknowledging their commitment and cooperation in making this strategic development a reality.
