PWD Allocates RM2 Million for Gua Musang Sinkhole Repairs

Gua Musang: The Public Works Department (PWD) has allocated RM2 million for the repair of three sinkholes in Gua Musang, which will be opened to light vehicles before March 28. Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan announced that the route at Kilometre (KM) 78 of Gua Musang-Lojing near Kampung Jekjok, Pos Brooke, currently impassable due to the sinkhole incident, will soon be opened for the convenience of road users, particularly those returning for the Eid celebration.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Maslan stated that the road will initially open one lane before Hari Raya Aidilfitri, with plans to open two lanes post-celebration. Construction work is progressing, with a culvert being built and 50 percent completion achieved. The concessionaire is also actively working on sewer construction in the affected area.

Ahmad Maslan noted that although the sinkhole has been closed and locals have begun using the route, it has not been officially opened. Currently, the passage is suitable for cars and motorcycles only, as heavy vehicles, including buses, are not permitted.

“Before March 28, all vehicles are not allowed to pass through the road until notified by the PWD. Commuters can use the Gua Musang-Sungai Koyan-Ringlet-Tapah-Ipoh-Cameron Highlands alternative route,” he said.

In November of the previous year, a six-metre-deep sinkhole appeared at KM78 of Jalan Gua Musang-Lojing. A month later, a second sinkhole emerged, reaching a depth of nine metres, just five metres from the first location.
