Kuala Lumpur: Media practitioners are set to visit the site of the explosion and subsequent gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya next Wednesday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan noted that the visit aims to provide media personnel with a firsthand view of the excavation work currently being undertaken by the relevant authorities at the site. The excavation has successfully located the exploded gas pipeline. However, the recent unpredictable weather has complicated further processes.
“We are experiencing difficulties due to the rainy weather every day this week that has resulted in many work disruptions,” Hussein stated during a press conference. He emphasized the importance of the visit, saying, “We will organise a media visit to the area next Wednesday so that the media can see for themselves the work being carried out by the relevant authorities and see how complex the investigation at the scene is.”
Previously, on April 18, Hussein mentioned that the excavation work was nearing completion, with expectations to receive an initial technical investigation report on the incident within a week. The forensic investigation is being conducted by the police, Malaysian Fire and Rescue Station, and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health before issuing the preliminary report.
Authorities have collected some specimens found during the excavation, and efforts continue to uncover further debris from the explosion that could shed light on the cause. The gas pipeline fire, which occurred on April 1 at 8.10 am, resulted in flames soaring over 30 metres high and temperatures reaching 1,000 degrees Celsius. It took nearly eight hours to completely extinguish the blaze.
