Kuala Lumpur: KPJ Healthcare Berhad (KPJ Healthcare) has appointed 16 senior consultants as heads of specialties and subspecialties across its network of hospitals nationwide, underscoring its commitment to clinical excellence and sharper focus on patient-centric care.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, this strategic move reflects KPJ Healthcare’s resolve to elevate standards, strengthen clinical governance, and unify care delivery across its 30 hospitals. By aligning leadership across disciplines and embedding standardised best practices, research, and training, the initiative aims to enhance the consistency and quality of care throughout the KPJ network.
The statement highlighted that as KPJ Health System advances towards becoming a fully integrated Academic Health System, these appointments will play a key role in bringing together clinical care, education, and research, ultimately improving patient outcomes and experiences. Among the appointed senior consultants are Senior Consultant in Anaesthesiology and Critical Care Datuk Dr Azhar Mohd Noh, Senior Consultant in Neurosurgery Prof (C) Datuk Dr Zurin Adnan Abd Rahman, and Senior Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology Prof Dr Imelda Nasreen Nasruddin @ Balchin.
Other notable appointments include Senior Consultant in Emergency Medicine Dr Nur Abdul Karim, Senior Consultant in Internal Medicine Dr Mohd Shazli Draman @ Yusof, Senior Consultant in Cardiothoracic Surgery Prof (C) Dr Shahrul Amry Hashim, and Senior Consultant in General Surgery Prof (C) Dr Mohamad Ismail Ali. The statement noted that these newly appointed consultants will act as clinical leaders within their respective fields, promoting consistent clinical standards and best practices throughout KPJ Healthcare hospitals.
Their responsibilities will encompass guiding multidisciplinary decision-making and acting as reference points for clinical teams, promoting the best practices and care pathways to improve consistency of care, supporting talent development and medical education, and contributing to evidence-based research through the KPJ Research and Innovation Centre.
In the same statement, KPJ Healthcare President and Managing Director Chin Keat Chyuan welcomed the appointments, stating that each of the senior consultants is a recognised figure in their respective specialties. He expressed confidence that their expertise will enhance the coordination of clinical services across the KPJ network, aligning with the long-term commitment to strengthen governance, standardise clinical practices, and elevate the quality of treatment, training, and patient outcomes.
