Public Service Pensioners’ Welfare Remains a Government Focus

Telipot:The welfare and wellbeing of public service pensioners continue to receive the government's attention, ensuring that those who have served the country are not forgotten, said Public Service Department (PSD) director-general Tan Sri Dr. Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has consistently emphasized the importance of the PSD addressing issues affecting pensioners, particularly their welfare and wellbeing post-retirement. Wan Ahmad Dahlan highlighted this priority after the Santuni Pesara Programme in Telipot.

Following the Prime Minister's direction, the PSD has made outreach to pensioners an ongoing initiative, conducting various programs across states. Wan Ahmad Dahlan stated that this initiative reflects the government's appreciation for the significant contributions pensioners have made to the country's development during their service.

He also regularly reminds civil servants to continue prioritizing pensioners' needs as a form of gratitude for their service. During his visit under the Santuni Pesara Programme, Wan Ahmad Dahlan met with three public service pensioners in Bachok and Kota Bharu, Kelantan. The programme, in collaboration with the PSD, Retirement Fund Incorporated, and the Kelantan State Implementation Coordination Unit, aims to attend to the welfare and needs of pensioners, especially those requiring support.

The pensioners visited are Mohd Nazar Abu Bakar, 61, a former research assistant at the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI); Lee Choon Seng, 90, a former non-graduate service officer at the Ministry of Education (MOE); and Siti Zaitun Abdullah, 78, a former graduate education service officer with the MOE, who is now receiving care at ShalisCare Centre. The visit was particularly meaningful for Wan Ahmad Dahlan, as Siti Zaitun was his former Geography teacher at Sultan Ismail College.
