PTPTN Loan Repayments Deferred for Low-Income Borrowers Under Budget 2027

Jakarta:First paragraph of the news story.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the government has decided to defer National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan repayments for borrowers earning less than RM2,500 a month as part of Budget 2027.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that borrowers earning between RM2,500 and RM3,000 will only need to make minimum repayments of RM50. This deferment is expected to benefit over 400,000 borrowers, allowing them to delay repayments until their income increases.

Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, stated that borrowers who maintain regular repayments without outstanding arrears will be eligible for a 10 percent discount. Additionally, the government will offer tax deductions to employers repaying PTPTN loans on behalf of their employees, applicable for repayments made between January 1, 2027, and December 31, 2028.
