Drugs Worth RM3.3 Million Seized at Kuching Airport; Two Men Arrested

Kuching:Police have seized 32.73 kilograms of Eramin 5 pills, valued at approximately RM3.3 million, and arrested two local men during an operation at Kuching International Airport on September 28.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department apprehended the suspects, aged 25 and 39, in the arrivals hall. The investigation revealed that the drug syndicate procured the substances from Johor Bahru for distribution in Kuching.

Acting police commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak stated that the suspects allegedly received a payment of RM5,000. The syndicate is believed to have been active since August and the confiscated drugs could have impacted up to 163,650 individuals.

Urine tests showed that the 25-year-old suspect tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine, and benzodiazepines, whereas the other suspect tested negative. The younger suspect, who is unemployed, has a criminal history that includes a drug-related offense and two other crimes. The older suspect, a fisherman, has two previous criminal records.

The suspects have been remanded until October 5, with an extension of two days, before facing charges under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 at the Kuching Magistrates' Court on October 7.
