Kuala Lumpur: The National Science Centre (PSN) here will be temporarily closed to the public from March 1 to September 30 for maintenance and repair work on the roof structure. Its director, Mohammad Fuad Rahman, stated that despite the temporary closure, efforts to promote Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) will continue to be enhanced through various national-scale programmes nationwide throughout this year.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, among the programmes to be organised by PSN, which is an agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), is the National Science Week Carnival 2025. This annual national-level carnival programme aims to strengthen the STI culture in Malaysia. The Borneo Science Expedition 2025, a special programme under the SciTech4U initiative by MOSTI, is also being held as a platform to engage students and rural communities in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan.
Mohammad mentioned that PSN will also conduct the Ulul Albab Science Expedition 2025, an initiative combining interactive science and Quran learning through an adventure approach. Furthermore, the Malaysian Combat Robot Competition was held, showcasing innovative designs and robot battles as a platform for developing students’ talents in robotics and automation technology.
The National RC Jet Contest was also held, focusing on promoting and cultivating STI, particularly among students in the field of aircraft design (aeromodelling). Additionally, the “School’s Out Kids In” (SOKI) programme, an STI cultural initiative coinciding with the school holidays, aims to enhance STI content for visitors and is conducted alongside PSN Trooperz On The Move, an initiative engaging the community with interactive science activities across various locations in the country.
Mohammad added that the roof repair work at PSN will be carried out by the Public Works Department (JKR) to ensure the future safety and comfort of visitors.
