Oslo: The Society for Medical Decision Making (SMDM) has awarded its prestigious 2026 Career Achievement Award to Professor Uwe Siebert from UMIT TIROL and Harvard University. This accolade, presented at the SMDM's 48th Annual Meeting in Oslo, Norway, highlights Professor Siebert's impactful contributions to the field of medical decision-making.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Career Achievement Award is given to senior investigators who have significantly advanced the science and practice of medical decision-making. The selection process involves a competitive nomination and evaluation by the Society's Awards Committee after an open call for candidates. Professor Siebert's recognition stems from his extensive research, leadership, education, and service that have transformed the field internationally.
"This award reflects not only my own work but also the dedication and expertise of my entire team. It also reflects the support, encouragement, and inspiration I have received throughout my career from my students, fellows, colleagues, mentors, friends, and my family," expressed Professor Siebert in his acceptance statement.
Professor Siebert holds the position of Professor of Public Health, Medical Decision Making, and Health Technology Assessment at UMIT TIROL - University for Health Sciences and Health Technology in Austria. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and an affiliated researcher at the Center for Health Technology Assessment at Mass General Brigham, Harvard Medical School.
His academic journey includes a Master of Public Health from the Munich School of Public Health and Epidemiology, and both a Master of Science in Epidemiology and Doctor of Science in Health Policy and Management from Harvard School of Public Health. Professor Siebert's innovative work in medical decision analysis and health-economic evaluation has influenced clinical guidelines, cancer screening programs, and national health policies worldwide.
Throughout his career, Professor Siebert has provided counsel to governments, health technology assessment agencies, professional societies, and international organizations on evidence-based policy and healthcare decision-making, authoring over 500 publications in the process.
