Klang:The Scouts Association of Malaysia (PPM) is gearing up to enhance safety measures and preparedness for the 2026 National Jamboree on The Air and Jamboree on the Internet (JOTA-JOTI), set to take place from October 16 to 18. This is in response to potential haze-related risks that could affect the event.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, PPM will continuously monitor the Air Pollutant Index (API) using data from the Department of Environment to ensure all activities consider current air quality conditions. National Chief Scout Major General Datuk Wira Prof Dr Mohd Zin Bidin emphasized the association's commitment to the safety, health, and well-being of all participants, especially younger Scouts and those with respiratory issues.
The association reserves the right to adjust the programme, venue, or schedule, including postponing or canceling activities if haze or other safety concerns threaten participants' health. Outdoor activities will be regularly evaluated and could be modified or moved indoors if API readings indicate unsafe air quality. Strenuous activities will be avoided when air quality is unsatisfactory.
PPM has also prepared alternative activities to ensure the event proceeds smoothly without compromising health and safety. Participants are advised to bring face masks, stay hydrated, and report any symptoms such as coughing or shortness of breath to leaders or medical personnel. Safety and health personnel will be on-site with first-aid facilities for emergencies.
Themed 'A Peaceful and Inclusive World,' the programme aims to unite Scouts from across Malaysia to promote unity, friendship, and inclusivity. As of 3 pm, API levels in 35 areas were in the unhealthy category, with Klang, Selangor, recording the highest level at 194.
