Penang: The Penang Port Commission (PPC) is strengthening cooperation with the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) to enhance security and streamline inspection procedures at the state's entry points, particularly the North Butterworth Container Terminal (NBCT).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, PPC chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin emphasized that improving security measures must coincide with facilitating legitimate trade and ensuring smooth operations at the terminal. Yeoh stated, "Security enhancements must go hand in hand with smooth trade operations, ensuring that legitimate commerce continues without disruption while also preventing congestion that could affect daily activities at the terminal."

Yeoh added that PPC would extend its full support to AKPS, including through information sharing, technical assistance, and the adoption of modern surveillance technologies to strengthen monitoring and enforcement capabilities. These measures are expected to reduce security risks while contributing positively to the well-being of the Penang community.

He stressed that sustained collaboration between PPC and AKPS is vital to ensuring safer, more efficient, and competitive port management in line with government policies and operational needs on the ground. Earlier, Yeoh held a courtesy meeting with an AKPS delegation led by Penang AKPS commander Zuhair Jamaludin. The meeting also provided an avenue for both sides to discuss ways to improve inspection procedures at entry points while balancing security requirements with the need to facilitate efficient cargo and trade movements.
