Petaling jaya: The power supply disruption at Kayu Ara Flats in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, has been fully resolved following serious damage to the main switchboard (MSB) due to a fire in the building's electrical room.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Bandar Utama assemblywoman Jamaliah Jamaluddin announced that repairs to the damaged main switchboard were completed with the help of official allocations from her constituency's office and in cooperation with local authorities. This effort was necessary despite the facility falling under the responsibility of the Joint Management Body (JMB).
Jamaliah, who also chairs the Selangor Public Health and Environment Committee, clarified that the disruption was not due to a failure by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) but was caused by a burnt and damaged MSB component responsible for distributing electricity throughout the building.
The damage resulted in a complete power outage and disrupted water supply as the pump motor could not function. Jamaliah noted that the building, being a privately owned stratified property, is managed by the JMB, which is tasked with maintaining the MSB. She disclosed that the MSB had not been maintained since 2007, prompting the JMB to appoint a contractor for inspection and repairs while seeking financial assistance from her office.
The total cost of repairs was RM25,000, with the JMB contributing RM5,000 and the remaining RM20,000 funded by her constituency office to support the affected residents.
Addressing claims of delayed repairs, Jamaliah explained that the project was carried out under the constituency's office minor project allocation, which involves procedural requirements before execution. However, given the urgency of the situation, the process was expedited from the usual two to four weeks to just two working days.
In addition, Jamaliah instructed her officers to coordinate with the JMB and personally contacted relevant parties to ensure the issue was resolved promptly.
