Polyplastics Unveils New Recycled DURAFIDE PPS Grades

Tokyo: Polyplastics Co Ltd, a leader in engineering thermoplastics, has announced the development of two new DURAFIDE polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) grades made from mechanically recycled materials. These new offerings, DURAFIDE rG-PPS 1140A1R00 and 1140A1R30, boast 40 per cent glass fibre reinforcement and contain 100 per cent and 30 per cent recycled glass fibre-reinforced PPS, respectively.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the introduction of these grades is part of Polyplastics' DURACIRCLE initiative, which aims for complete circularity in engineering plastics. The company offers these new grades through its re-compounding service, which processes scrap collected from customers as a raw material under the "Open PIR Mechanical Recycling Scheme."

The company meticulously gathers glass fibre-reinforced PPS process scrap from partnering firms that meet stringent quality standards. Following a rigorous process of inspection, sorting, and reformulation, the materials are compounded under optimal conditions and undergo rigorous quality assurance similar to that of virgin materials.

Polyplastics has plans to distribute these materials via its extensive global sales network, with current collection efforts focused on specific glass-filled DURAFIDE PPS grades. Furthermore, the company is actively exploring new applications and collection pathways, seeking collaboration with existing customers and firms within the waste-to-value sector.

Looking forward, Polyplastics aims to broaden its array of mechanically recycled PPS grades and to create sustainable, localized recycling chains across various countries and regions, promoting the concept of "local production for local consumption."
