Pahang: Police busted a drug trafficking syndicate in Pahang with the seizure of RM5.34 million worth of drugs in raids in Bentong and Maran last week.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman reported that during a raid on November 4 in Bentong, authorities seized 240 transparent plastic packages suspected of containing 140.4 kilogrammes of cannabis flowers, valued at RM5.04 million. The drugs were discovered in a Toyota Camry car abandoned at the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project site. The vehicle’s registration number traced back to a local man with an address in Johor Bahru, as revealed during a press conference at the Pahang Police Contingent Headquarters.
In a subsequent raid on Thursday, November 6, police arrested a 37-year-old local man and confiscated 102 transparent plastic packages suspected of containing marijuana. These packages weighed 98 kg and were worth RM303,800. The seizure took place from a Perodua Ativa car intercepted at the Maran Rest and Recreation Area en route to Kuala Lumpur. A urine test on the suspect returned positive for amphetamines, and further investigations uncovered he had 10 prior criminal records related to drug offences.
The case is under investigation pursuant to Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which stipulates the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
