Subang Jaya:Five individuals were detained, and untaxed food and alcohol worth more than RM1 million were seized during an operation in Subang Jaya.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the raid, known as "Op Taring Alpha 5," took place at 11:30 am at the Subang Industrial Park. It was a collaborative effort involving the Bukit Aman Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, Petaling District Health Office, Royal Malaysian Customs Department, and Subang Jaya City Council.
Authorities confiscated 118 types of food products and 23 boxes of liquids believed to be Chinese-made alcohol, suspected of evading customs duties. The total value of the seized items was estimated at RM1,022,635.20. A local individual and four Myanmar nationals were arrested, serving as supervisors, workers, and the manager of the premises.
The operation revealed non-compliance with various laws, including the Food Act 1983, Customs Act 1967, and Immigration Act 1959/63. The operation underscores the importance of inter-agency cooperation in tackling the distribution of non-compliant goods, which often involve multiple legal violations.
The integrated approach allows for thorough enforcement actions addressing criminal, smuggling, food safety, licensing compliance, and customs and immigration enforcement issues. The Wildlife Crime Control Bureau aims to continue strengthening strategic cooperation with relevant agencies through information sharing and intelligence-led actions.
Since January 1, the bureau has conducted 272 nationwide raids, detaining 459 individuals for offenses such as smuggling non-taxed goods and wildlife, leakage of controlled items, and e-waste operations, with seizures totaling RM331,717,981.96.
