Kuala Lampur:The Ministry of Health has cancelled the notification of the cosmetic product GB Daily Glow Skin Cream after it was found to contain mercury, a scheduled poison, making it illegal for sale in the country.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, mercury is banned in cosmetics due to its potential to be absorbed into the body, leading to kidney and nervous system damage. It can also interfere with brain development in young children or unborn babies and cause skin rashes, irritation, and other changes.
The ministry has advised the public to avoid purchasing and using the affected cosmetic product. Users are urged to discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional if they experience any discomfort or adverse effects.
Consumers are encouraged to verify the notification status of cosmetics and view the list of cancelled products on the official National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) website at www.npra.gov.my.
Sellers and distributors must halt the sale and distribution of the product immediately, as its sale breaches the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984. Offenders face a maximum fine of RM25,000 or up to three years' imprisonment, or both, for a first offence, and up to RM50,000 or five years' imprisonment, or both, for subsequent offences. Companies could be fined RM50,000 for a first offence and up to RM100,000 for further violations.
