PM Urges Acceleration of Sungai Buloh and Sungai Damansara Flood Projects

Kuala Lumpur:Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed that the flood mitigation projects for Sungai Buloh and Sungai Damansara be expedited following recurrent flooding in the region.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the projects, valued at nearly RM700 million and already approved by the federal government, are to proceed without delay to minimize further flood risks.

The Prime Minister emphasized the urgency of accelerating river dredging work, for which contracts have been awarded. He noted the area's susceptibility to flooding, having been affected two or three times, and stressed the need for widening rivers, constructing additional retention ponds, and implementing comprehensive flood mitigation measures. Anwar provided these comments during a visit to the flood relief center at Siantan hall in Kampung Melayu Subang.

Anwar also mentioned plans to obtain a progress report on federal flood mitigation projects this Friday, while Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari is expected to update on state-level projects at the State Executive Council meeting on the same day.

The flood mitigation projects for Sungai Buloh and Sungai Damansara, consisting of two phases, were previously approved with nearly RM700 million in total allocation and are currently between 30 and 60 percent complete.

Regarding assistance for affected residents, the Prime Minister assured government support to alleviate the flood victims' burdens. The extent of aid will be determined in collaboration with the state government, considering each family's circumstances and the extent of flood damage to their homes.

Recently, floods impacted areas in Subang and Sungai Buloh, including Jalan Jati, Kampung Melayu Subang, and Kampung Kubu Gajah, with water levels reaching between 0.3 and 0.6 meters. As of 11 am today, 30 people from eight families remain at the relief center.
