PM Anwar Urges All Parties To Respect Court Decision, Not To Agitate Situation

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on all parties to respect the court's decision concerning the addendum order issue and to refrain from inflaming the situation or escalating tensions. He emphasized the importance of respecting the ruling made by the judge, including acknowledging the legal avenues and channels available for submitting appeals, in line with existing legal provisions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister urged all parties to address the issue with patience and wisdom. He remarked that even if there are individuals who do not express sympathy towards Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his family, it is inappropriate to aggravate the situation or heighten tensions in such a sensitive circumstance. The Prime Minister highlighted the MADANI Government's commitment to upholding the rule of law and the principle of separation of powers, ensuring that the judiciary remains independent from any external influence.

The High Court recently dismissed the judicial review application by Najib over the addendum order allegedly authorizing him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest. Judge Alice Loke Yee Ching ruled that the alleged addendum order was neither deliberated nor decided upon during the 61st Pardons Board Meeting held on January 29, 2024. Justice Loke further stated that the addendum order did not comply with Article 42 of the Federal Constitution and was therefore invalid. Consequently, Najib is required to serve the remainder of his sentence at Kajang Prison.
