Putrajaya: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced six immediate measures for the people covering fuel subsidies, school maintenance, artificial intelligence (AI), healthcare digitalisation, e-Invoicing, and microfinancing, which will take effect on September 1. He emphasized that these actions are part of the government's ongoing efforts to alleviate the cost of living and daily pressures faced by the populace.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar addressed these measures during the 2026 National Day Prime Minister's Address at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre. The initiative includes restoring the eligibility for the Budi MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) fuel subsidy program from 200 to 300 litres per month, benefiting over 16 million users. Additionally, eligible owners of diesel-powered vehicles will receive up to 400 litres of subsidized diesel monthly.
In terms of education, the Prime Minister announced a 50 percent increase in the maintenance budget for all school types for 2027, raising the allocation from RM1 billion to RM1.5 billion. This increase covers national schools, Chinese and Tamil national-type schools, religious schools, and special education institutions. Anwar has directed the Education Ministry to expedite infrastructure repair processes starting January 2027.
The "AI for the People" program forms the third measure, offering Malaysian youths aged 18 to 30 free access to AI applications for three months upon completion of specific modules. The government aims to engage 100,000 participants through this initiative.
To enhance healthcare services, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission will allocate RM1 billion to improve digital efficiency across public healthcare facilities. This includes implementing an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system and boosting Internet connectivity in 150 hospitals and over 2,000 clinics.
Moreover, the government plans to raise the e-Invoice exemption threshold from RM1 million to RM3 million, reducing the burden on smaller businesses. Microfinancing facilities will also see an increase by RM1 billion, bringing the total funding for 2026 to RM6 billion. Anwar introduced the RM200 million Geran Sejahtera MADANI to support small traders and home-based businesses.
Anwar expressed hope that these measures reflect the unity and commitment of the government to ensure economic growth benefits the people. He also mentioned forthcoming announcements during the Malaysia Day celebrations in Sarawak and the tabling of Budget 2027, aiming to further alleviate the people's burden and enhance the significance of this year's National Day celebrations.
The Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to engaging with the public's concerns and translating national achievements into tangible benefits for a more prosperous and dignified life for all citizens.
