Melaka: The government is investigating the potential to host the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) in Melaka, as stated by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin. He highlighted that significant government funding would be required to develop the necessary infrastructure before the event could be relocated to Melaka.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamed Khaled mentioned that Klebang, being close to Batu Berendam airport and capable of accommodating ships, could serve as an alternative site to Langkawi. He noted that hosting LIMA in Melaka could enable greater attendance from across the country, unlike Langkawi, which limits accessibility.

Mohamed Khaled discussed this after inaugurating the Civil-Military Cooperation Carnival (CIMIC) at Dataran 1Malaysia, Klebang. He indicated that the government might consider Melaka for the biennial exhibition if Langkawi becomes unsuitable. The idea emerged after six Royal Malaysian Navy ships participated in Melaka's National Day celebrations this year.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh stated that Melaka is ready to host the international exhibition but needs to evaluate its capacity and potential benefits. He suggested that discussions with the federal government would be necessary to determine the feasibility and mutual advantages of hosting LIMA in Melaka.

Meanwhile, the Defence Ministry's Strategic Communications Unit announced that CIMIC, taking place from August 29 to 31, aims to enhance civil-military cooperation and provide the public with insights into the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF).
