PM Anwar Reaffirms Federal Govt’s Recognition Of Tuanku Muhriz As Negeri Sembilan Ruler

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed the Federal Government's recognition of Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, while stressing that the sovereignty of the Malay Rulers' institution will continue to be safeguarded in accordance with the Constitution.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted concerns about developments in the state, emphasizing that any challenges to the royal institution must be addressed through proper legal and constitutional channels, supported by solid justification. He stated that the Federal Government, though not directly involved in state affairs, must guide the Malay community and Malaysians in general, underscoring the monarchy's significance in terms of dignity, conventions, and rules.

Anwar reiterated the Federal Government's commitment to working with and recognizing Tuanku Muhriz as the legitimate Yang di-Pertuan Besar. He urged all parties to refrain from actions that might cause public concern, noting the serious implications for the country's stability if attempts were made to remove or impeach a ruler. The Prime Minister conveyed these views to the relevant parties following media reports about Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja'afar's installation as the 12th Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan by the Undang Yang Empat at a ceremony in Melaka.

In support of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun's decision, Anwar backed the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly to return the mandate to the people through a state election, aiming to resolve political uncertainty. He expressed full support for the Menteri Besar's view that an election is the best course of action given the confusion and lack of clarity, with the consent of His Royal Highness.

Anwar reassured that the Federal Government will continue to work with Tuanku Muhriz as the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, and while other actions might be pursued through proper channels, they would not be obstructed. Aminuddin announced the official dissolution of the 36-seat Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly to pave the way for the 16th state election.
