Melaka: Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh has indicated that the state election will likely take place after the completion of the Johor and Negeri Sembilan polls. He clarified that the political situation in Johor and Negeri Sembilan differs from that in Melaka, where there is currently no immediate need to dissolve the State Legislative Assembly. According to BERNAMA News Agency, the current term of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly is set to end on December 30. Ab Rauf emphasized that the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration would continue to govern and prioritize public welfare until an official election date is announced. He also mentioned that Melaka would not mirror the election timelines of Johor or Negeri Sembilan but would instead offer support through party machinery in those states' elections. Ab Rauf disclosed that he plans to assess the outcomes of the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections before deciding on the optimal date to dissolve Melaka's state assembly. He assured that there is no pressure on him to dissolve the legislative body prematurely, unlike the situations in Johor and Negeri Sembilan. Nonetheless, Ab Rauf acknowledged the unpredictable nature of politics, noting that it is an "art with 1,001 possibilities." The last Melaka state election in 2021 resulted in Barisan Nasional forming the government with 21 seats, while Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional secured five and two seats, respectively. Today saw the dissolution of the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly, following Johor's dissolution on June 1.
